Staple Green Juice

I know what you’re thinking…yuck!

Well, this post is for the die-hards. The green juice lovers. The earthly-bound palates. The adventurers. The healthy hippies.

Sadly, this isn’t my recipe. At least the components aren’t. A dear friend put this recipe on her blog a few years back and I’ve been making it ever since. It’s so good it’s become my staple and that’s why I’m sharing it with you. It helped me get onto the green juice bandwagon when I was ready to and maybe you’re there right now. All I know is it’s the juice I always go back to when I’m in need of a reset. One cup and I feel fantastic inside and out. I hope it does the same for you!

Only read on if you’re a green juice lover, or wannabe green juice lover…

RECIPE: Standard Green Juice

Servings: 2
Time: 20 minutes
Taste: Tart & Fresh
Action: Energizing & Replenishing

INGREDIENTS

1/2 apple
1-2” fresh ginger root
1 lemon
1/2 field cucumber
4 large stalks celery
1/2 head green curly kale (approx. 4 cups)
optional:
1/2c parsley, packed
1/2t spirulina or chlorella powder

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Core apple and remove any grimy parts of the ginger root and celery & kale bottoms.

  2. Chop all ingredients into small chunks, as per your juicer’s instructions.

  3. Juice, as per your juicer’s instructions.

  4. Strain juice through a sieve for a really smooth juice.

  5. Add spirulina or chlorella, if adding, and shake vigorously until combined.

  6. Optional: Add ice or place in fridge or freezer for 30 minutes before consuming for a chilled juice.

No juicer? No problem!

Just blend all ingredients in a high speed blender for 1-2 minutes, until fairly liquidy, then strain through a sieve and drink.
